Andy Jess…
Perhaps I was always destined to be a management consultant – I like solving problems, I enjoy working with people and I am told I am a good communicator. Having the opportunity to found our own change management consultancy in 1993, enabled Nigel and me to explore our abilities as leaders too.
My background in IT in the public sector prepared me well – I had experienced project successes and project failures and I learned from both. It seemed clear that project success depended more on changing peoples’ attitudes and their behaviour than implementing new technology. This lesson has stayed with me throughout my career and is probably why BASIS has developed strength in depth in its “people” change management capabilities.
I still get a great buzz from working with groups of people to facilitate them in diagnosing the causes of their business and organisational problems and devising simple, practical solutions. People are so much more likely to adopt a solution if they have been directly involved in its development.
I am very proud of the company we have created. Yes we have independent verification of our management and consultancy approach (through achieving ISO and IiP accreditation), but the feedback gathered from our own employees during these audits and assessments has reinforced my belief that we have a talented, dedicated and passionate team which shares our values.
