Many organisations now recognise that flexible working regimes are as attractive and important to their staff as an increase in salary – any reduction in time spent travelling is always welcomed. There are also clear benefits to the business, such as more effective utilisation of office space. However, managers may have fears of an adverse effect on productivity if the flexible working regime is dictated solely by individuals’ personal preferences. That is why our business-driven approach to Flexible Working is fundamentally different.

Firstly, we explore with the business managers the potential for flexibility on where and when work needs to be done, and any perceived constraints. Then, informed by this “business potential”, we consult the workforce on their personal preferences and suitability. Finally we reconcile the business opportunity with personal preferences at team level to arrive at a win:win solution.
